The Contemporary Art Collection includes the most important works by members of the protoconceptual group Gorgona - Josip Vaništa, Julije Knifer, Ivan Kožarić, Marijan Jevšovar, Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos and Đuro Seder - whose individual activity towards the end of the 50s and start of the 60s shaped the dominant tendencies in Croatian contemporary art still visible in our local production even today.

GORGONA - a group of artists active in Zagreb between 1959 and 1966. The members of the group included the painters Josip Vaništa, Marijan Jevšovar, Julije Knifer, Đuro Seder, sculptor Ivan Kožarić, art theoreticians and critics Radoslav Putar, Matko Meštrović, Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos, and architect Miljenko Horvat. Gorgona advocated non-conventional forms of visual art expression and aspired to the development of a new artistic sensibility and anticipated the later forms of the "new art practice".
